We’ve been to many places, but nothing compares. It’s a whole other world to explore. Each experience was unique in it’s own way, from the people, culture, tech and landscapes.. New Zealand is truly sumthin’ else.
Our team was flown out to Queenstown, to work along side Shotover camera systems. (More on that in future posts.. This post is focusing on leisure part of the trip.)
Shortly after we arrived in Queenstown, Aleks received a call from one of the Shotover guys asking if we would like to join them on a steamboat cruise, their Christmas party.
A quick shower and camera build were in order before we set sail. Fast forward ▸▸ 45mins, we found ourselves on open water, surrounded by new friends, massive mountains, all under a light mist with a rainbow peaking thru. Not bad for our first hour in New Zealand. :) After 32hrs of travel you almost feel like your hallucinating, our footage proved we weren’t.
The steamboat docked on the other side of the water, there we were invited to a dinner, which showcased local foods. New Zealand is all about quality. -Every meal we had throughout this trip was on it’s A game. -detailed to perfection. Its a given that if you go to an “okay” place, it’s still pretty up there.
Shortly afterwards our group headed over to a nearby barn, filled with animals. There, we found ourselves learning about the local ways of farming and Kiwi lifestyle. We received a full demo on how sheep dogs work their magic herding sheep. - really impressive. Our group had a walk thru on the process of shearing sheep. The lead guy in charge grabbed a sheep, and with three movements you were left with one naked sheep and a perfect rectangle duvet for your bed. It looked mighty tempting with the jet lag kickin' in. On the way back drinks were flowin’, mags filled and batts low. It was time for a recharge. Zzz.. Zzz..
The majority of our week was mapped out with our shooting schedule, but had a few openings through out. The day to day driving made driving fun again, keep left, keep left!
We had a chance to check out the Shotover Jet boat, highly recommend. -coming inches away from the rocks at high speeds, really keeps you on your toes. The landscapes are equally as enjoyable; a few wrong turns will just lead you onto another adventure, it will not disappoint. We hit up some luging in between, and visited the Gorge Road Jump Park on opening day, really sealing the deal for us. -Throw in some heli’s, with the latest tech, great people, and breath taking views, New Zealand is one to check out. Much more to come..
